The Artist at work episode 30
Perception and first impressions matter. But to what end?
This week on The Artist at Work we are talking alllll about “professionalism” and the connotations that word carries. When you take a step back and think about how it’s used in context, oftentimes it’s laden with judgement and stereotypes, specifically in the interview stage.
So we’re asking… what can we do as interviewers and employees to make the interviewing process more inclusive? How can we advise other people to look out for their own inherent biases and just sort of change the definition about professionalism.
If you just want the highlights, here’s our POV…
- We hope the “rules” relax and it comes less about appearance.
- We can start to let the work *truly* speak for itself.
- We want to reframe the idea of professionalism entirely.
