After working for nearly two decades in the corporate world, I pivoted and now I focus on the part of my job I love the most and where I can make the biggest impact – mentoring, developing and coaching creative professionals.
From agencies and start-ups to big and small brands - I’ve seen it all, or at least most of it. I know how hard it is to develop yourself on the job and how most of the time it’s up to you to figure out on your own.
CheckPlus was born to help you navigate your creative career, giving you a place to be understood and the resources you need for development. Working with me, you’ll unlock what I have learned from my years of hands on experience, the struggles I lived through and lessons learned along the way. You'll also gain access to my tips, tricks and tools I’ve created to help you succeed. I’ve lived through the chaos, so you don’t have to.
Why not build it myself? Several months and a whole lotta cold brew later, CheckPlus was born.
And that’s what I want for you. Clarity, fulfillment and a career path you create with intention. What do you want? Are you truly working towards it? Do you need a push? Do you have a plan?
If not, no time like the present to figure it out, ya know?
I don’t have a particularly unique story. I graduated college, found myself in a series of jobs and then one that eventually felt like a career. Of course, I’m downplaying that. I worked my booty off to get those roles and loved my time in each. But I was going through the process rather passively - bopping in and out of industries and job titles trying to find my perfect fit. I knew I wanted to grow, but I didn’t have the language, tools or resources to fully articulate what I was looking for.
Like most, I had periods of high stress, burnout and negativity. I also had periods of absolute joy, gratitude and optimism. I made incredible friendships, learned a ton and figured out what I value. That could also be an indicator of age, but let’s not discuss those grays, k?
But when COVID took our nation by storm, I was given the opportunity to reassess what life looks like. And the deeper I dug, I knew in my core going back to a traditional corporate role, whatever the industry, was no longer my calling. Instead I want to really dive into what I love, which is mentoring, developing and coaching creative professionals.
There is such a void in the creative industry for those things not taught on the job. Sure, there are conferences and seminars and online learning, but I never found anything pointed at right-brained, big-thinking, growth-focused creatives. No tangible take-a-ways, how-tos and checklists. Not even any prompts or mindset work to help you get into the right headspace for growth. And no amount of Google searches will mitigate this gap. Trust me, I’ve tried.

Open and honest communication builds trust. Simple as that.
Everyone’s time is valuable. There’s power in delivering feedback and approaching difficult conversations with tact. Not getting to your point or sugar coating only dilutes your message and leaves the conversation open for interpretation.
This doesn’t come naturally to me. My instinct wants to pack everything into every minute of my day, but I’ve learned to schedule in space. Space for ideas to percolate, space for trying new things and space for reflection.
To understand what motivates and inspires you, you need to start with understanding what you personally value. Working through this has helped me define my leadership style, career path (hello!) and appreciate my down time.
And frankly, I really love working with people who just get it. If our values are aligned, we’ll click and do great things together. If you see something in there that speaks to you and you want to chat, reach out and we’ll get things started!
Being able to connect with people is so important. Learning to truly listen and see other people’s perspectives improves relationships.
I’ve been through the burnout cycle and it’s not a cute look. I prioritize rest and play and schedule them into my weeks in a consistent way. This keeps me even, rested and fulfilled.
Ahhh digging deep. Some of my favorite work. Spending time identifying our strengths, our goals and giving ourselves the permission to grow and change is so valuable. I’ve learned more about myself in the last several months than the last several years. Prioritizing this continued change is important to keep yourself moving forward.
